Traditionally, the donor sites of the split-thickness skin graft were abdomen, thigh, buttock, back, scalp and upper arm. Among them, the abdominal wall, buttock, thigh are the most common donor sites because of the easy hiding the donor scar by a bathing suit or shirts and large area as donor sites. In aspect of the non-seen scar, the scalp is the most suitable donor site. Furthermore, short healing period and less primary contraction make the scalp graft as a best on for the small to moderate sized skin defects. -
From Feb. 1988 to Aug. 1989, 15 patients underwent scalp split-thickness skin graft procedures. 13 patients were bum patients, and 2 patients were injured by traffic accident and knife cutting.
Except the 1 focal hair loss and 1 exudating crust, the grafts were well taken and the donor sites were well healed.
Biopsy specimens were taken from the scalp donor sites from 4 patients at the time of operation and 5, 15, 20, and 2 5 postoperated days.
Re-epithelization was become to found at the 20th post operated day.
